NORFOLK, Va. - A memorial service was held Tuesday at Naval Station Norfolk to remember Sailors killed on the USS Iowa.

47 Sailors were killed when a gun turret exploded on the USS Iowa on April 19, 1989.

The battleship was at sea during the explosion, but was homeported in Norfolk at the time.

"I remember the whole day. I remember what they day looked like. It was a beautiful sunny day. It was a day like any other day and then all of a sudden things just went wrong," survivor D. Gramazio told NewsChannel 3's Todd Corillo Tuesday.

The Iowa now serves as a museum in Los Angeles.
