CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Over 30 active duty military members will honor men and women who died in military service to the United States in the Virginia Run for the Fallen.

The 250 plus mile journey will be in memory of Virginia service members that passed as a result of serving during the War on Terror and in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn.

Each mile will be dedicated to a different individual hero and his or her family. The run team will stop at “Hero Markers” to give a tribute in memory of a service member.

The event will begin Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 a.m. at Fort Story, Virginia and end in Arlington National Cemetery Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m.

On Sunday afternoon, there will be opportunities for the public to show their support and walk alongside the team in Alexandria for the last mile from Fort Myer’s Old Post Chapel at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall to Cemetery Section 60, where many Virginia heroes have been lain to rest.
