Norfolk, Va. – Nauticus made an exciting announcement this week about an addition to their shark population.
For the first time in over 10 years, a brownbanded bamboo shark pup has been born at the facility.
Sharks rarely reproduce in captivity.
Nauticus says the species has three ways of reproducing, and oviparously (laying eggs) is the rarest, with the eggs deposited in small rounded cases on the sea floor. The developing embryos feed solely on the yolk within the case until they hatch.
Eggs take approximately 3-4 months to hatch. This new shark pup hatched in three!
