MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – It’s lucky no one was home to open the door.
A man walking his dog down a residential South Carolina street stopped and pulled out his phone after spotting an alligator acting strangely.
“He was walking around in front of a couple of houses down in the cul-de-sac area, so we went down, took a couple videos,” Gary Rogers told WCIV. “I didn’t know alligators could actually climb . . . it went over to the house (and) it was kind of up around the doorbell.”
Jamie Bailey, who lives in the Foxbank Plantation home, told the station she wasn’t sure if the giant reptile rang the doorbell or not, but she did come home to new scratches on the front of her home, including on the handle itself.
“I thought it was a joke,” Bailey said, “and then they sent me the video and I was in disbelief.”
Neighbors said it wasn’t unusual to see alligators in that part of South Carolina, but never on a porch. They said the gator was trapped in the cul-de-sac for about an hour before finding its way to freedom.
