Hampton Roads, Va. – Seventeen high school seniors and juniors were awarded $470,000 in scholarships during an awards ceremony at the Western Virginia Beach Town Center.
Good grades and hard work in the kitchen gave three students from Hampton Roads a full-tuition scholarship to culinary schools in New York and North Carolina.
The contest challenged students from around the country to “get the beef off their buns” and create an innovative veggie burger.
Throughout the contest, students were introduced to the Meatless Monday public health initiative.
Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) also announced the Hampton Roads based winner at the ceremony.
Scholarships ranged in value from $500 to more than $100,000 to attend local culinary schools and some of the most prestigious culinary schools in the country.
