Portsmouth, Va – A police cruiser was rear-ended by a suspected DUI driver on High Street near Godwin Street shortly after 3 a.m. Monday morning, according to police.
The accident was called in by a medic who saw a black vehicle pass him at a high rate of speed just before the accident happened.
Police say the driver was in a black Dodge Charger and crashed into the back of the police vehicle.
The officer was driving slowly in the area, looking for the suspects responsible for robbing someone in the 1200 block of High Street just before 3 a.m.
The driver of the Dodge Charger, 45-year-old McAllen Mathurin of Norfolk, was arrested and charged with DUI.
The officer and the driver both sustained minor injuries.
