KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. - Kill Devil Hills Police need your help after vandals struck their agency early Tuesday morning.

According to police, someone slashed the tires of several police vehicles around 4:00 a.m.

The squad cars were not being used at the time, and police say they will still be able to handle 911 calls in a timely fashion.

Still police call the vandalism inconvenient, and are not sure why they were targeted.

“That is kind of the question we would like answered,” said Capt. Mark Evans with the department. “We take this very seriously. We have over $1,000 worth of damage to our patrol cars."

One of the vehicles hit was used by the police emergency response team, and two of the vehicles were police squad cars.

"We take it to heart,” Evans told NewsChannel 3. “We're law enforcement, and we're here to serve the public. When we have our own vehicles that are damaged, we take it pretty seriously."

If you have information on this crime, take action and call the Dare County Crimeline at (252) 473-3111. If your anonymous tip leads to an arrest, you could get up to $1,000 cash.
