Parents Surviving Summer: Rainy day activities

HAMPTON, Va. - Not every summer day is sunny and beautiful, but there's no need to let the rainy ones ruin your summer vacation.

There are tons of fun things to do indoors in Hampton Roads that will fill your days with excitement.

Let's start with a classic: bowling. Century Lanes in Hampton is part of Kids Bowl Free, an organization providing two free games of bowling every day this summer to kids under 15 years old.

Century Lanes in Hampton is one of three bowling centers in Hampton Roads participating in this program. Sparetimes in Hampton and Pinboy's in Hilltop are also participating.

Starting May1st and ending August 30th, you can bring your kids in to bowl two free games any day you want!

"If you're going to be stuck inside – what better than food and movies and being waited on hand and foot," says Caitlin Walker, the marketing director for Cinema Cafe.

Cinema Cafe has five locations all across Hampton Roads and is totally reinventing the term 'dinner and a movie.'

"Not only just popcorn and soda and candy, but we have pizza and burgers and wings and kids meals," says Walker. "It's perfect for families because its affordable and we wait on you hand and foot, so you don’t have to miss a second of the movie going to get refills of drinks or popcorn or anything like that."

"You know if you cant get to the beach, if you cant get to the pool… if you want to do something different this is just more fun stuff that you can add to your list," says Ronda Baucom, the owner of Color Me Mine in Norfolk.

They're holding special summer classes or you can stop by any time you're feeling inspired.

"It's something creative. It’s a different way to spend your time," says Baucom. "Kids are not afraid to get creative so it’s a great place to come."

Plus, seven days later you'll have a nice piece of art to keep in your collection.
