HAMPTON, Va. - The beach and pool are great, but if you're looking for another outdoor option, there are plenty here in Hampton Roads.

Maybe you want to spice up your summer with some animals?

Look no further than the Bluebird Gap Farm in Hampton.

The farm is 60 acres with almost 150 domestic and wild animals, exactly what you need for an exciting, family oriented adventure.

They have a pavilion, picnic tables, a charcoal grill, a large playground, and nature trail.

Bluebird Gap Farm is open Wednesday through Monday from 9:00am to 5:00pm and is free and open to anyone!

There's also one of the coolest playgrounds around at Lake Meade in Downtown Suffolk.

Kids can swing and slide all day long at the Kidszone Playground.

The park also has a skate park, ten tennis courts, covered picnic shelters, two new walking trails and a dog park.

The Paradise Creek Nature Park in Portsmouth is another great place to spend the day.

Forty acres of land is being restored by the non profit Elizabeth River Project to bring the wonders of the river back to life.

With two miles of trails and 11 acres of new tidal wetlands, this place offers a hands on learning experience.

You can take a ranger walk with Ranger Educators or you can volunteer and be a part of the restoration yourself!
