Newport News school bus involved in crash in Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. – A Newport News school bus was involved in a crash at North Armistead Avenue and West Mercury Blvd. around 6:20 a.m. Friday.

According to police, the bus was traveling westbound on West Mercury Blvd. when it began a left turn onto North Armistead Ave. A gray 2008 Volkswagen that was traveling eastbound on West Mercury Blvd. then went through a red light and hit the school bus.

There was one student on board during the crash who suffered a very minor injury, according to Newport News Schools.

The driver of the Volkswagen, a 36-year-old Hampton woman, was issued a summons for Failure to Obey a Traffic Signal.
