Christopher Alan Hogge was arrested Monday morning and charged with eight counts of possession and distribution of child pornography, according to the Isle of Wight County Sheriff's Office.

The Battery Park Baptist church website says Hogge, who they call Pastor Alan, has been working at the church for 15 years.

Court records show that Hogge also takes home about $1,600 every two weeks from his job as the Director of Social Services for the City of Franklin.

The Franklin City Attorney said there was a closed-door meeting held Monday night where city leaders discussed the operation of their social services department. However, it’s unclear what will happen next in light of Hogge’s arrest.

The married pastor has children of his own and spent three years working at the Patrick Henry Boys and Girl’s Plantation, a Christian home for troubled youth from May 1992 until March 1995. The organization said he cleared a background check and was never suspected or accused of any inappropriate behavior during his time there.

He’s been working for churches for years and moved to Hampton Roads in 2001.

Hogge went on mission trips to the Ukraine and hosted a child from the Ukraine for 6 weeks, according to the church website.

He worked various positions with the City of Chesapeake for 16 years, eventually resigning in 2011 as the Social Worker Supervisor.

The city sent us Hogge's employment history:
·         8/1/95 – P/T Mental Retardation Counselor, CSB
·         1/2/96 – F/T Mental Retardation Counselor, CSB
·         10/23/00 – promoted to CPS Worker, Human Services
·         7/1/01 - Position reclassified to Social Worker I, Human Services
·         5/1/04 – promoted to Social Worker II, Human Services

Deputies in Isle of Wight interviewed Hogge extensively after he was arrested and searched his computer files.  They stress none of the children in the images found on his computer are believed to be local. They said through their investigation they believe his criminal activity has been going on for several years.
