VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - With warm temperatures in the forecast for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, many people are planning to hit the water and kick off boating season.
Officials are urging people, however, to boat safe and boat right.
Kevin Dufault, with the Norfolk Harbor Patrol Unit says officials will be on the water in full force ensuring safety.
They'll be cracking down on any boaters who are drinking and driving. First offenders could face up to $250 in fines, and lose their license for up to a year.
Boaters should also remember to have life-jackets on board for every person on the vessel. Anyone under 13 is required to actually have the life jacket on at all times.
