Memorial Day Events
Annual Tidewater Veteran’s Memorial Day Ceremony in Virginia Beach will be held indoors at the Virginia Beach Convention Center due to the rain. Lt. Col. Wade E. Wallace, USMC will be the keynote speaker. There will not be a 21-Rifle Salute nor a flyover as in year’s past.
May Ceremony Honors Fallen Heroes is a one-hour observance ceremony to honor the military service members who gave their lives. It will take place rain or shine.
Memorial Day Ceremonywill take place in Chesapeake and is hosted by the Mayor’s Commission on Veterans Affairs. Due to the weather, the event will be held in City Hall in the Council Chambers at 11 a.m.
The Portsmouth Day Memorial Parade has been a tradition since 1884. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and celebrates Portsmouth’s rich Military heritage.
Colonial Williamsburg will host aMemorial Day Commemorative Program, honoring fallen service members on the Palace Green. Military ticketholders can also stop by the new Liberty Lounge for beverages and a chance to get out of the sun.
National Park Services celebrates Memorial Day in Yorktown by setting flags on the graves of unmarked soldiers.
Open Mics
The Venue on 35th Streetoffers their Memorial Day Open Mic from 7 through 11 p.m. $3 cover at the door.
Mood Mondays is in session from 8 through 12 p.m.

The Memorial Day concert at Oyster Point, Fountain Park at City Center, Newport News, has been cancelled. Cancellation is due to inclement weather and expected thunderstorms.
