Scholarship fund created for children of man fatally shot at James City Co. Farm Fresh

JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. – Farm Fresh Food & Pharmacy stores in the Williamsburg area are raising money for a fund in honor of Gabriel “Gabe” Maness.

Maness wasrandomly shot and killed by 55-year-old Brian Hicks at a Farm Fresh grocery store in James City County, according to police.

Maness’ wife, Kristy, was eight months pregnant at the time of the shooting.

From May 22 through June 5, customers at participating Farm Fresh locations will be able to round-up their receipts to the nearest dollar or donate a specific dollar amount of their choosing at checkout to the Maness Family Scholarship Fund.

The fund was created to help pay the Maness children’s college tuition.

Farm Fresh donated $5,000 to the fund.

Donations can also be made through Old Point National Bank once the round-up campaign ends.

  • Farm Fresh Five Forks, 4511 John Tyler Highway
  • Farm Fresh Williamsburg, 455 Merrimac Trail
