CHESAPEAKE, Va – Two people are in custody after leading officers on a pursuit through Chesapeake and into Norfolk that ended in a crash.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 1 a.m. at Providence Road and Georgetown Boulevard on a 1995 black Mercedes. After randomly running the car’s license plates, the officers learned they did not belong to the Mercedes.
The Mercedes refused to stop and police officers pursued the vehicle into Norfolk. The pursuit ended when the driver of the Mercedes lost control and crashed while attempting to exit I-264E to Campostella Road.
The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were taken into custody.
Police say the driver was 48-year-old Michael Johnson, of the 800 block of E. Princess Anne Road in Norfolk. He has been charged with 3rd Offense Suspended License, Eluding, Fictitious Registration, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
The passenger has been identified as 32 year-old Antoine Smith of the 900 block of Workwood Road in Norfolk. Smith was charged with Drunk in Public.
Johnson and Smith were treated at the hospital for neck pain then transported to Chesapeake City Jail.
There were no other injuries or property damage.
