PLYMOUTH, NC. – The North Carolina Black Bear Festival took place in Plymouth, NC on June 3 through 5.

The bears in North Carolina, called coastal black bears, are the largest black bears in the world, averaging around 50-100 lbs heavier than bears from other areas. These animals are also very prevalent. Since coastal North Carolina is not heavily inhabited, the bears have plenty of room to move and have few natural predators.

The event drew people from all over the state and included activities such as magic shows, music, and, of course, bears.  The festival also featured a 5K in addition to bear tours to see the animals in their natural habitats.
