NEWPORT NEWS Va. – Police responded Tuesday to an incident between a taxi driver and a resident in the 4800 block of Warwick Boulevard.

Around 10:30 p.m. the driver dropped off two fares on Warwick Boulevard. During the drop-off a man came out of the residence with a handgun and waved the gun, pointing it at the driver. The man accused her of trying to abduct the two passengers she had dropped off.

The driver told officers that one of the passengers paid the fare and she left the area to call police.

According to police, officers were already familiar with the residence and the people living there so they were able to identify Clyde Lamont Dargan, 42, as the suspect.

Dargan is the step-father of Kwanza Beaty, the 23-year-old  shot and killed by police July 4, 2015.

Officers obtained an arrest warrant, charging the Dargan with brandishing a firearm.

They also obtained a search warrant for the residence in order to locate the handgun used by the suspect in the incident.

Dargan has a history with anger and violence toward Newport News police officers, according to police.

As a result of his history, officers attempted to service Dargan’s arrest warrant away from the residence and during daylight hours.

After confirming his general location, contact was made with the suspect explaining the warrant and asking that he turn himself in. Dargan turned himself in at the magistrate’s office about at 2:45 P.M. on June 8.

Later that afternoon officers served the search warrant of the residence. During this time four firearms were seized, a .380 caliber handgun, a .9mm handgun, a shotgun and a .22 caliber assault style rifle.
