Crews respond to gas leak in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Crews responded to the scene of a natural gas leak in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake on Wednesday morning.

According to the Chesapeake Fire Department, a contractor cut an underground natural gas line in the 1300 block of Ivy Trail, which is off Volvo Parkway.

The leak has since been secured.

Authorities say 48 nearby apartments were evacuated as a precaution. Residents have since been allowed back to their apartments.

Students at the nearby Greenbrier Primary School were ordered to stay indoors due to their proximity to the leak.

No injuries were reported.
