TCC to sign transfer agreement with East Tennessee State University

Posted

TCC-Logo-Stacked_000HAMPTON ROADS, Va. –  The newest transfer agreement at Tidewater Community College with East Tennessee State University will allow civil engineering students with associate degrees to earn an online bachelor’s in surveying and mapping and surveying at the Johnson City university.  Due to Virginia’s lack of a bachelor’s in mapping and surveying, TCC students will only pay in-state tuition if they reside in Virginia and wish to take these East Tennessee State courses.

“This new agreement is a great opportunity for our students to continue their education,” said Chris Cartwright, program head for Civil Engineering Technology at TCC.

Students can take many of the 68 credits in the Associate of Applied Science in Civil Engineering Technology on any of TCC’s four campuses, however; upper-level courses must be completed on the Virginia Beach Campus.  The Virginia Beach Campus houses state-of-the-art labs in concrete, soils, fluids and the same equipment surveyors use on the job.

TCC’s fall semester begins August 22, and both evening and dynamic class sessions are available.  Students who pursue bachelor’s degrees are qualified to sit for the Fundamentals of Surveying exam from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying, earning them the industry credential of Land Surveyor-in-Training.

Associate degree graduates can sit for this exam only if they have six years of professional work experience.  The work requirement is waived for students who graduate with bachelor’s degrees.  The transfer agreement takes effect immediately.

Prospective students should contact Cartwright at 757-822-7312 orccartwright@tcc.edu.
