Dogs rescued from apartment fire in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Several dogs were rescued by Portsmouth firefighters on Tuesday during an apartment fire.

Portsmouth Fire Deputy Chief Hoffler said crews were called to the 300 block of Washington Street just before 11 a.m.

Units arrived to find smoke coming from the apartment building.

Two dogs were rescued from the building while firefighters were conducting searches.

One of the dogs was taken to the fire station because crews were unable to locate its owner.

The cause of the fire was by the exhaust fan in the bathroom.

No one was injured.
