NEWPORT NEWS, Va.  – The Peninsula Health District has lifted the swimming advisory for King-Lincoln beach on Thursday.

Hilton beach is still under an advisory.

Samples collected on Tuesday by the Peninsula Health District showed that bacteria levels in the water exceeded the State Water Quality Standards.

A sign is still posted at Hilton beach alerting the public of the advisory.

Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria routinely during the summer swimming season.

Health officials removed the sign for King-Lincoln beach once the bacteria levels decreased to levels that met the State Water Quality Standards.

People swimming in waters with bacteria levels higher than the standard have an increased risk of developing gastrointestinal illness.
