PORTSMOUTH, Va.-  On Saturday, July 2, join the celebration of American independence like it’s 1944!

Outside the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Museum and Lightship Portsmouth, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., you can learn about life on the home-front in World War II Portsmouth.

The event is open-air, and completely free.

You can sign up to become one of the W.A.V.E.S., Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service that aided the boys overseas right here in America and abroad.

For the aviators, you can fly atarget kite, which helped the Allied forces identify planes of different builds throughout the war.

There will also be live Swing Dance music throughout the day, and performances in the afternoon.

There’s no better way to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend than learning about our history!
