POLK COUNTY, Tenn. - A candidate running for Tennessee’s 3rd congressional district has caused a major controversy with his campaign billboards.
One of Rick Tyler's signs declared “Make America White Again” and the other quotes “I have a dream” over a drawing of the White House covered in Confederate flags.
He told WRCB-TV that he doesn’t hate “people of color,” but wants to return to a "1960s, Ozzie and Harriet, Leave it to Beaver time when there were no break-ins; no violent crime; no mass immigration."
"I don't know how many millions of us there are but, I believe there are a lot of us; we believe that was a better America than the America we're living in today," Tyler claims.
Tyler is one of three independent candidates running for the seat now held by Chuck Fleischmann, a Republican, who faces both Republican and Democratic contenders.
Someone has already taken the sign down, but Tyler plans to put it back up.
