NORFOLK, Va. – A long time resident got a special surprise from Norfolk Fire-Rescue crews for her 100th birthday.

Jeanette Carty turned 100 years old on Wednesday.

Carty’s late husband started working for Norfolk Fire-Rescue in 1942 and served the city for 30 years.

She still lives in the house where she and her husband raised their children.

Her nephew, Capt. David Bear, and his father also serve the city.

Members from Norfolk Fire-Rescue Battalion 3, Engine 11, Recruit class 155 and a few members from training participated in the surprise and delivered flowers to Carty.
