Gunshot victim walks into Norfolk fire station

Update (9:55 AM 06/28/16) - The victim is in stable condition, according to police, who tell News 3 the suspect tried to rob the victim before shooting him. Police are looking for a black man, around six feet tall, with a slim build. Police say the suspect look to be between 50 and 55 years old, and was wearing a dark shirt and blue jeans.

NORFOLK, Va. - Police are investigating after a gunshot victim walked into Fire Station 8, located at 526 Frederick Street.

According to Norfolk Police, the victim, a 55-year-old man, was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say the initial shooting happened in the 400 block of Rockingham Street, around 1:15 pm. The victim then walked into the fire station seeking assistance. The two locations are less than .25 miles apart, according to Google Maps.

According to dispatch, Chesapeake Police Department assisted in the investigation.

News 3's Merris Badcock spotted police cars from both Norfolk and Chesapeake near the 500-block of East Indian River Road near Colonna's Shipyard.
