NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Police are looking for any information that may help solve the robbery of a 78-year-old woman on June 25.
While the elderly woman was sleeping, the suspect burglarized the home and then robbed her.
The victim woke up to a noise in the kitchen and saw a figure of a man in the hallway when she got up.
The man grabbed her and demanded money and jewelry.
After forcing the woman into a bathroom, he fled the home.
Neighbors tell News 3 the man broke inside her home through a back window. They say the 78-year-old woman has lived in the neighborhood for more than 30 years.
Others say the incident on their quiet street is alarming.
"She's just a few years older than I am and that scares me," says Betty Dickson. "I try to lock up at night, but I've been known to forget."
The suspect is described as a bald, white male, and about 6 feet tall. He's medium build and was wearing dark clothing and a scarf over his face at the time of the incident.
Neighbors are concerned he might have been watching the woman's home.
