CAMP SPRINGS, Md. – Joint Base Andrews was placed on a lockdown Thursday morning due to reports of an active shooter at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility on the base.

The base was placed on lockdown just after 9 a.m.  Personnel were directed to shelter in place while the threat was investigated.

The lockdown was lifted around 10:35 a.m. The base tweeted that an “All Clear” was given for the base with the exception of the medical facility.

There was an active shooter exercise planned for Thursday morning at the base but a “real-world active shooter situation” was reported. At this time, there’s no word on whether the active shooter alert was in relation to the exercise.

Joint Base Andrews is controlled by the U.S. Air Force. It’s also home to several U.S. Navy Reserve units, National Guard and Air National Guard units, and the two Boeing VC-25 aircraft known as “Air Force One.”

This is a developing situation. Additional details will be posted as they become available.
