OCRACOKE, N.C. – There will be a fireworks show for the first time in seven years on Ocracoke Island.

In 2009 a truck carrying fireworks for a July Fourth show exploded, killing three men and one woman.

The explosion was found to be accidental, but the island had chosen to forgo a Fourth of July fireworks display ever since.

This year, fireworks will be launched from the NPS boat ramp area and will be visible throughout the harbor area.
