NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Dominion Resources awarded $50,000 to the Newport News Police Foundation to fund its Police and Pals mobile playgrounds.

The Police and Pals program allows children to interact with police officers and expand recreational opportunities for youth in neighborhoods that might lack recreational resources.

Officers take the mobile play centers to events at schools and community centers.

Police and Pals encourages trust between officers and kids through recreational activities. Police officers want to reach out in neighborhoods throughout Newport News and build a better understanding of the role of police in the community.

“Having reached the end of the school year, we are thrilled to support this program that will let kids be kids and enjoy their summer, while building community trust and vitality,” said Hunter A. Applewhite, president of the Dominion Foundation, Dominion’s charitable arm.

The Newport News Police Foundation was created to fund and assist programs and activities designed to enhance the community.
