Firefighter hospitalized after Suffolk house fire

Pughsville RoadSUFFOLK, Va. – A firefighter was taken to a hospital after fighting a house fire in Suffolk Friday night.

Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 4100 block of Pughsville Road around 11 p.m.

The homeowner had evacuated prior to firefighters arriving on the scene.

Smoke and fire damage extended to several rooms inside the home.

The fire was marked under control at 11:40 p.m. The house sustained an estimated $50,000 worth of damage.

Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire and will be assisted by the American Red Cross.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries during  was transported to a local hospital.

There were no injuries to the occupants.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding units included Engines 25, 5, 10, Ladder 5, Rescue 6, Medics 5A and 10A, EMS 1, Rehab 6, Fire Marshal 1 and Battalion 2. The Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department and Driver Volunteer Fire Department backfilled stations during the incident.
