PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Police are investigating after two people were shot early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to Maryview Hospital shortly before 2 a.m. after a man with serious injuries from a gunshot wound to the torso was dropped off at the emergency room.

About 10 minutes later, officers were called to the intersection of Gothic Street and Hickory Street where a second man was found who had been shot in the foot.

The second victim was taken to a hospital where he is expected to recover.

According to detectives, both victims were inside a car in the 2000 block of Frederick Boulevard when they were shot. The man who was shot in the foot jumped out of the car when it stopped and ran.

A passerby saw the vehicle and stopped to help the man who had been shot and was still inside. Due to the seriousness of the male’s injuries, the passerby transported the male to Maryview hospital for treatment.

The investigation is ongoing.
