Mega Millions ticket sales generate over $17 million for public education in Virginia

During the 35 drawings of the jackpot, sales of Mega Millions tickets in Virginia raised $17.5 million in profit.

By law, all of the money goes to K-12 public education in Virginia.

In Fiscal Year 2015, the Virginia Lottery generated nearly $534 million for Virginia’s public schools.

In the drawing on Friday, July 8, more than 330,000 Mega Millions tickets bought in Virginia won prizes.

One of the winning $5,000 tickets was bought at the 7-Eleven located at 3700 Kecoughtan Road in Hampton.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights at 11 p.m.
