Portsmouth woman dies after being stabbed; man charged with domestic assault

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A woman has died after being stabbed in Portsmouth Saturday.

Police have identified her as Jayneika McCatty, 25, of Portsmouth.

According to a news release from police, they received a 911 hang-up call from an apartment in the 200 block of Chowan Dr. around 12:10 a.m.

When officers got there, a man at the apartment told them there was a woman inside with a stab wound to the neck.

Medics took her to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

According to the news release, during their investigation police determined that the man at the apartment, Anthony White, 33, of Portsmouth had stabbed McCatty.

White was arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault.

McCatty died from her injuries the next day, around 2:00 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the stabbing is now a homicide case and additional charges may be pending against the suspect.
