Newport News Police: Missing dementia patients located safely

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Two men suffering from dementia that were reported missing in Newport News on Monday have returned home, according to Newport News Police.

John Albert Holmes, 77, of the 100 block of Delmar Lane was last seen at about 4:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. He was leaving his residence in a green 2001 Mercury Marquis with Virginia license KJD-9052.

Holmes is a black male, 5’11”, weighing about 110 pounds with a medium brown complexion. He is a diabetic and suffers from dementia as well. At the time he was wearing a white shirt, tan pants and dark brown shoes.

Newport News Police reported just before Noon on Tuesday that Holmes had been found safely.

Gregory Lance Wood was also reported missing Monday by family members. He moved to the area several days ago and has been staying with relatives in the 900 block of Chatsworth Drive.

Wood has been diagnosed with dementia and is diabetic. He is 5’11”, 230-250 pounds, and was last seen wearing tan pants, a brown shirt, and black shoes.

His wife last spoke to him at about 3:00 p.m. on Monday. When later attempts to contact him were unsuccessful, Ms. Wood returned to the residence around 6:00 p.m. and Wood was not at the residence.

On Tuesday morning, Newport News Police said Wood had returned home.
