Unbiased policing initiative led by Attorney General debuts in Hampton Roads

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – As officer involved shootings continue to fill headlines across the country, law enforcement officers in Hampton Roads are working to bring those numbers down.

According to a press release from the Attorney General’s office, 25 officers from 15 different law enforcement agencies began a three-day training program on Monday, aimed at educating officers on “safe, fair, impartial, 21st century policing.”

The initiative is being led by Attorney General Mark Herring, and was the second of five regional training events for Virginia.

According to a statement from Herring’s office, this is the Attorney General’s “initiative to promote 21st century policing and equal justice…to help strengthen trust, communication and relationships between law enforcement agencies and their communities.
