Hundreds of USS Wisconsin Veterans gather in Norfolk for 17th reunion

NORFOLK, Va. – Vets from WWII, the Korean War, and the Persian Golf War are in town to attend the 17th  Battleship Wisconsin Association Reunion.

Nearly 300 Veterans and their families will be participating in activities throughout the week in Norfolk.

The Association gathered in Norfolk last in 2012.

A new exhibit, Alan Dean: Rising Above Bias, will also open on July 22 in the Wisconsin’s Wardroom, in conjunction with the Vets visit. Dean was a member of the Association and served as an Ensign on the Battleship from 1951-1953.

Dean was the first African-American officer on the ship and one of only six commissioned black officers int he U.S. Navy at the time.

The exhibit is open to the public.
