GLOUCESTER, Co., Va. – A woman was flown to a hospital Tuesday afternoon after being shot by her husband.

Around 2: 15 p.m., someone called 911 to report a shooting. The caller said they heard several gunshots and then saw their neighbor who was bleeding and said she had been shot.

The victim, a 58-year-old woman, told responding deputies that her estranged husband had shot her in the arm.

The victim was air-lifted to a hospital in serious but stable condition.

It was reported to deputies that the suspect had fled on foot into a wooded area in the 6400 block of Marshall Way, armed with a rifle.

Deputies located the suspect in the wooded area, deceased by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victim had obtained a Protective Order against her estranged husband on Monday.
