NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – A Swimming advisory has been lifted at Anderson Park Beach, according to the Virginia Department of Health.

Water samples taken on Tuesday showed that bacteria levels exceed the State Water Quality Standards, and they are back to healthy levels.

Recreational waters are monitored for bacteria through the summer months while beaches are in use.

A sign was posted at the beach warning the public of the advisory and was taken down once the levels dropped lower.

The bacteria found does not cause illness but scientific studies indicate that their presence is closely correlated to the presence of other disease-causing organisms.
