Virginia State Police involved in brief pursuit in Norfolk early Wednesday

NORFOLK, Va. – Virginia State Police troopers were involved in a brief pursuit on Wednesday morning in Norfolk.

A Trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-64W in Norfolk around 8 a.m.

The driver, later identified as Steve L. Hines, refused to stop and attempted to hit the Trooper’s vehicle several times before crashing at the intersection of Burleigh Road and Newport Avenue.

Hines then fled from the crash. He was taken into custody a short time later at Newport Avenue and Hariton Court.

He has been charged with Reckless Driving 94/64 mph zone, no registration, driving on a suspended license, no insurance, an HOV infraction and felony eluding. He was also wanted on three warrants for Failure to Appear in both Hampton and Norfolk.
