ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Police are investigating after a woman was shot in the leg Monday night.
According to police, an 18-year-old woman was talking to an unknown black male at the corner of Etheridge Street and Cypress Street when her boyfriend approached them. While they were talking, the unknown male made it known that he was carrying a gun.
The woman and her boyfriend started walking on Queen Street and the woman was shot once in the back of the leg.
Officers were called to the 200 block of Queen Street just before 9:30 p.m. to assist.
EMS arrived on scene and transported the victim to a hospital where she is expected to make a full recovery.
Police did not release any suspect information.
