NORFOLK, Va. - The Military Order of the Purple Heart is holding its National Convention in Downtown Norfolk.
Tuesday during the Opening Ceremony the Secretary of Veteran Affairs, Robert McDonald, welcomed hundreds of Purple Heart recipients to the Mermaid City.
The annual event brings hundreds of MOPH members together to participate in training sessions, approve new governing amendments and setting the agenda for the following year.
However, this convention is about so much more than business. Attendees say this is their favorite time of year to get back with their brotherhood and reflect on their service.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart is a U.S. war veterans organization with over 40,000 members who have all earned a Purple Heart while serving our country.
Their mission is to create an atmosphere of camaraderie among combat wounded veterans and to rpomote patriotism and to provide support for veterans and their families.
