ISLE OF WIGHT Co., VA. - The Sheriff's Office says at least 30 mailboxes were destroyed in the area of Bowling Green Road and Longview Drive this week.
The vandalism happened between the night of August 9th and early morning hours of August 10th.
News 3 saw several mailboxes that were smashed in, some that did not close, and one that was knocked off completely.
Lloyd Whitney, a resident along Bowling Green Road, says his daughter woke up to the noise.
"It sounded like it was hit real hard," he says. "We just don't know who is doing it, it happened so fast."
Another neighbor, Jashaunda Crawford, can no longer close her mailbox.
"We expect very important stuff and our mailbox is just open, anybody can just come through and take it," she says. "It's very unnecessary, why?"
The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who had their mailbox destroyed during this act of destructive rampage, to call their dispatch center at 757-357-2151.
If you know the identity of those responsible for this destruction, call the Crime Line a 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
