MATHEWS COUNTY, Va. – The Mathews County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police investigated a two-story house fire in the 300 block of Dyers Creek Road.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call about the fire at 4:13 a.m. on August 14.
The house was completely engulfed in flames and was deemed a total loss.
The home owner, an 81-year-old man, was believed to be in the home at the time of the fire.
The man’s remains have since been recovered in the fire have been positively been identified as the home owner.
No foul play has been established at this point, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The man’s family has been notified.
