CHESAPEAKE, Va -The man accused of shooting his 21-year-old stepson during an alternation on Monday night has been granted bond.

Adryallus Reeves was arrested shortly after the shooting and remained in the Chesapeake City Jail until Thursday morning where he was granted a $25,000 bond.

According to police, the shooting happened in the 1600 block of Martin Avenue around 11 p.m.

In court, Reeves, who is partially paralyzed, was wheeled into the courtroom. He said the shooting was in self defense.

The stepson was shot once in the abdomen and was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries. According to family members, the stepson is out of the hospital and at home recovering.

Reeves lives at the home on Martin Avenue with his two stepsons and the children's mother. Once he is released he will stay with his stepdaughter's home, who is the sister of the victim.

Reeves has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection to the shooting. His next court date is scheduled for November.
