WASHINGTON, DC – Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg was scratched from his scheduled Monday start at Baltimore. The right-hander has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with elbow soreness in his throwing arm.

According to MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman, Strasburg’s elbow issue is not structural and the team is merely being proactive. Sherman says Strasburg had inflammation after his last few starts.

Strasburg is 15-and-4 this season in 23 games, all starts. He has a 3.59 ERA in his 145.1 innings pitched. However, he’s lost his last three decisions, in which he’s failed to pitch more than 5.1 innings in any outing.

A.J. Cole will start in Strasburg’s place Monday.
