ERT WEEKLY CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE: Friday, Aug. 19 to Friday, Aug. 26
Below is a list of tunnel/lane closures for the Elizabeth River Tunnels (ERT) Project. Due to the nature of construction, closure dates are subject to change. Visit our Travel Impacts page for current information and a more detailed listing of long-term temporary road closures.
U.S. 58 West: Full tunnel closure for special event Saturday, Aug. 27 at 6 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
U.S. 58 East: Full weekend tunnel closure from Saturday, Aug. 27 at 12 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 29 at 5 a.m.
High Street: Full closure between Constitution Avenue and Confederate Avenue continues through Sunday, Aug. 28 for 24 hours a day.
U.S. 58/ London Boulevard East: Off-ramp full closure Monday through Thursday, Aug. 22-25 from 7 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning.
I-264 West: Single lane closure between Des Moines Avenue and Frederick Boulevard Monday through Thursday, Aug. 22-25 from 7 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning.
I-264 East: Single lane closure near Frederick Boulevard off-ramp Monday through Thursday, Aug. 22-25 from 7 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning. The Frederick Boulevard off-ramp will also be closed during this time period.
Frederick Boulevard North/I-264 East: On-ramp full closure Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 23-25 from 8 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning.

HAMPTON ROADS WEEKLY LANE CLOSURES REPORT: August 19, 2016 through August 26, 2016
- I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel: Alternating and single-lane closures northbound and southbound as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:
- Northbound August 22-23 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- Northbound August 23-25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
- Southbound August 24 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- US-17 James River Bridge: Night-time single-lane closures southbound August 22-26 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. One lane will remain open to traffic at all times.
- I-64 High Rise Bridge: Single-lane closures as follows eastbound and westbound. One lane will remain open at all times:
- Westbound August 22-25 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- Terminal Boulevard Resurfacing, Norfolk: Full weeknight/weekend closures eastbound/westbound as follows:
- Weeknights August 23-26: Westbound full closure from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- I-64 Westbound, Hampton: Night-time single-lane closures August 21-25, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning from Magruder Boulevard to Mercury Boulevard. Two lanes will remain open at all times. There will be two ramp closure as follows:
- The off-ramp from I-64 westbound to Mercury Boulevard south (exit 263A) will be closed August 22-24, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- The on-ramps from Mercury Boulevard north & south to I-64 westbound will be closed August 24-25, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- The off-ramp from I-64 westbound to Magruder Boulevard (exit 262B) will be closed August 24-25, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- I-664 Southbound, Newport News: Single-lane closures southbound August 21-25 from as early as 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning from 23rd Street to Terminal Avenue. Two lanes will remain open at all times. Inspection station to remain open at all times.
- I-664 Northbound/Southbound Ramps to and from I-64 Westbound, Hampton: Alternating on-ramp closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times.
- I–664 Northbound on-ramp to I-64 Westbound August 21-25 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following.
- I-664 Southbound on-ramp to I-64 Westbound August 21-25 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following.
- Military Highway Continuous Flow Intersection, Norfolk: Alternating single-lane closures northbound and southbound as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:
- August 21-27: Alternating single-lane closures northbound and southbound from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning on Military Highway between Lowery Road and Elizabeth Avenue.
- Terminal Boulevard, Norfolk: Alternating lane closures eastbound and westbound August 22-25 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
- US-13 (Lankford Highway), Northampton County: Daytime single-lane closures northbound and southbound between Onley and Painter. One lane will remain open at all times:
- August 22-27 from as early as 6 a.m. until as late as 7 p.m.
- August 26 from as early as 6 a.m. until 12 p.m.
- Elizabeth River Tunnels/Martin Luther King, Jr. Freeway: Please check Elizabeth River Tunnels website for the latest closure and detour information regarding the Downtown Tunnel, Midtown Tunnel and the MLK Freeway.
- I-564 Intermodal Connector, Norfolk: Please check http://www.i564intermodal.com/ for the latest closure/detour information.
- George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17), York County: Crews are widening the road between Route 630 (Wolf Trap Road) and Route 706 (Hampton Highway). Daytime single-lane closures, from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. and weeknight single-lane closures, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Expect traffic shifts and delays. FULL RAMP CLOSURES SCHEDULED ON I-64 WEST IN HAMPTON
HAMPTON–Full ramp closures are scheduled overnight for the Mercury Boulevard and Magruder Boulevard ramps on Interstate 64 for paving operations next week as follows:
- The off-ramp from I-64 westbound to Mercury Boulevard south (exit 263A) will be closed August 22-24, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
- The off-ramp from I-64 westbound to Magruder Boulevard (exit 262B) will be closed August 24-25, from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
During the I-64 westbound off-ramp closure to Mercury Boulevard north (exit 263B), traffic will be detoured as follows:
Motorists will pass the entrance of the closed ramp and proceed on I-64 westbound and exit at the Mercury Boulevard south (exit 263A). Motorists will continue on Mercury Boulevard south until the Power Plant Parkway intersection. Motorists will make a left onto Power Plant Parkway, make a left onto Power Plant Way, and then make a right onto Mercury Boulevard north to complete detour.
During the I-64 westbound off-ramp closure to Mercury Boulevard south (exit 263A), traffic will be detoured as follows:
Motorists will pass the entrance of the closed ramp, proceed on I-64 westbound and exit at the Magruder Boulevard (exit 262B). Motorists will continue on Magruder Boulevard until the Hardy Cash Drive intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Hardy Cash Drive and proceed to the Coliseum Drive intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Coliseum Drive and proceed on Coliseum Drive until the Mercury Boulevard intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Mercury Boulevard south to complete the detour.
During the I-64 westbound off-ramp closure to Magruder Boulevard (exit 262B), traffic will be detoured as follows:
Motorists will pass the entrance of the closed ramp, proceed on I-64 westbound and exit at the Hampton Roads Center Parkway (exit 261). Motorists will merge onto Hampton Roads Center Parkway until the Big Bethel Road intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Big Bethel Road and proceed to the Commander Sheppard Boulevard intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Commander Sheppard Boulevard and proceed to the North Campus Parkway intersection. Motorists will make a right onto North Campus Parkway and proceed to the Magruder Boulevard intersection. Motorists will make a right onto Magruder Boulevard south to complete the detour.

VIRGINIA BEACH: Road Work on Indian River Road Started Monday the 15th
Virginia Beach Public Works has announced a roadway improvements project on Indian River Road will begin Monday, August 15, 2016. The project will begin at Speed Fentress Bridge and Indian River Road to North Landing Road, and will include milling, paving and pavement marking work.
Crews will be working in the evenings from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. If any daytime work is needed, it will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If any weekend work is needed, the work hours will be from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.
The project is scheduled to be completed by September 1, 2016.

NORFOLK: Military Highway Continuous Flow Intersection work northbound and southbound. Two lanes will remain open at all times:

CHESAPEAKE ROAD WORK: Battlefield Blvd/Medical Pkwy intersection closures Monday, July 11 through September
Public Utilities will close various lanes at the Battlefield Blvd and Medical Pkwy intersection over the next 10 weeks for the replacement of water and sewer lines in the area. Next week the right-turn lane on Medical Pkwy will be closed.
