Ashburn, Va. – The time has come. Arguably the hardest part of being a head coach, is telling a player that he’s been cut. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden delivered that news to 10 players Saturday afternoon.
The biggest surprise comes with linebacker Willie Jefferson, who was competing for an outside linebacker spot. With his departure, it’s down to Houston Bates and former Norfolk State linebacker Lynden Trail competing for the spot. “It’s never easy,” says Gruden. “I’m proud of them, in the way that they’ve come in here and competed since the OTA’s its unfortunate we have to do what we have to do, but its something every team has to go through. It’s not easy that’s for sure.”
