One person killed in Newport News DWI head-on collision

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Police are investigating a head-on crash that killed one person Sunday morning.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., two vehicles were involved in a crash in the area of Kingsway Drive and Jefferson Avenue.

Upon further investigation Police say Atonio Williams Jr., was driving a Toyota Avalon northbound in the southbound lanes of the 11700 block of Jefferson Ave.

Williams struck a 2015 Ford Escape that was traveling southbound head-on.

The Ford Escape was driven by Breon Watson, 25.

Watson was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Williams was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Williams was charged with one count DWI 2nd offense, one count of Involuntary Manslaughter and one count Driving on a Suspended License.
