Tropical depression off Carolina coast expected to become tropical storm Monday

OUTER BANKS, N.C. - A new tropical depression off of the Carolina coast could become a tropical storm on Monday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

There are currently no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but the National Hurricane Center says areas along the Outer Banks should monitor the progress of the depression.  A tropical storm watch may be required for the area later Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.
