Commonwealth’s Attorney requests additional investigation in Jamycheal Mitchell case

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office requested additional investigative work from the Virginia State Police On Tuesday.

The office received a preliminary report from the VSP regarding the in custody death of Jamycheal Mitchell.

After meeting with investigators regarding the preliminary report, the office requested additional work to be done.

As a result of this request, the investigation is ongoing.

Once all findings have been turned over to the Commonwealth’s Attorney there will be a review and final prosecutorial determination.

Mitchell was found dead in his cell in the Hampton Roads Regional Jail on August 19, 2015.
